Groundbreaking of the Jose Luis Clerc Tennis Academy

Algodon Wine Estates is pleased to announce the recent groundbreaking of its international Tennis Center and new home to the Clerc Tennis Academy.

The Tennis Center and the Academy will both be headed by the renowned José Luis Clerc, and will feature every variety of Grand Slam playing surface including 9 championship clay courts, 1 hard court, and 1 grass court. The Tennis Center will also have a main court with a mini stadium that will accommodate approximately 800-1000 people, and will host championship finals and exhibition games with top-level international players. The Clerc Tennis Academy will hold individual and group classes for all levels and ages, and will feature high-end amenities including a state-of-the-art gym, locker rooms and a clubhouse for players.

The groundbreaking was held at 6:00 p.m. on March 25, 2009 at Algodon Wine Estates. Honored guest at the event included San Rafael’s Mayor, Mr. Omar Félix; Director of the Tennis Academy, Mr. José Luis Clerc; Algodon Wine Estate’s CEO and founder, Mr. Scott Mathis; celebrated design architect for Algodon properties, Gerhard Heusch; as well as a number of municipal and provincial officials.

“This doesn’t end with an international-level tennis academy;” Clerc told reporters “there will also be a plan to hold challenger tournaments in the mini-stadium with $75,000 in prizes, as well as junior tournaments. It won’t only be for expert players. There are already 9 rooms, an 18-hole championship golf course in the middle of the vineyards, and in a couple of years, there will be a five-star hotel. I honestly can’t believe it, it’s a dream of mine that came true in my country.”
