The Algodon

Editorial from Scott Mathis, Chairman & Founder

Cheers to a great 2011! Thanks to everyone on the entire DPEC, Algodon Mansion, and Algodon Wine Estates team. Our positive press, public relations, and patronage are the direct result of each and every one of our staff– across the board- in marketing, housekeeping, finance, on-site management, waiters, waitresses, bar staff, front desk, wine operations, farming operations, our winemakers, reservations, our accomplished chefs, dishwashers, sales support, butlers, our partners, directors and all of our advisers…everyone. On behalf of all of our shareholders and board of directors, a big thank you to all who continue to work so hard to make our mission a success.

It hasn’t always been easy. We’ve been challenged by the global economy, which is still experiencing its worst climate since the Great Depression. The outlook doesn’t look very promising in Europe or the USA, but I do think that we are in the right part of the world at the right time. In spite of the global economy, all of us are in a unique position and must continue our "only the best" attitude in everything we do. We have acquired and built some incredible assets, and have seen successes in quality and international recognition for our efforts. That is a direct result of each one of you and your participation. Just to name a few of this year’s highlights:

Algodon Mansion: Travel+Leisure’s "It List" Best New Hotels in 2011; Condé Nast Traveler's summer 2011 "Hot List"; Buenos Aires’ only Relais & Châteaux hotel (Chez Nous is the second restaurant in BA); a Forbes Magazine feature, BlackBook Magazine’s "Top Pick" restaurant in Buenos Aires; Bon Appétit Magazine's Buenos Aires Travel Guide; Huffington Post feature; and many more.

Algodon Wine Estates: Construction on the 1st homesites have commenced; featured in Condé Nast Traveler’s Holiday Gift Guide; CNN Names San Rafael as one of the World’s Best Places to Retire; as well as a multitude of press and media.

Last but not least- Algodon Wines: 91 and 90 point Parker ratings, high marks from arguably the world’s authoritative and most important wine ratings guide (and that’s just for our 2008 wines- wait until they see what we have in store for them in 2010 and beyond). This is a crowning achievement of our entire wine team. We have always felt that improving the quality of our wines would reflect on the increased value of our real estate- I believe we are well on our way. Let’s not forget that this year our wines have also received other international accolades, and that our olive oil was awarded Gold for the 3rd year in a row.

In 2012 and beyond we have the potential for even more opportunity. Keep up the great work, your partnership, your friendship, and your patience.

Thank you,
Scott Mathis
