Algodon Wine Estates: Bringing Together the Wine Routes of Patagonia & Mendoza

At a recent convention in the provinces of Neuquén and Rio Negro, Diego Coll Benegas, (Algodon Wine Estates' Director of Project Development, Tourism & Hospitality) met with fellow members of Argentina's Tourism Advisory Committee, as well as several members of government, in order to discuss future plans to unite the wine tourism route of the Cuyo region (which includes Mendoza wineries) with the wine tourism route of Patagonia.  Diego represents Algodon Wine Estates on the committee, where we are an active member.  The series of meetings lasted for three days and was also attended by the Secretaries of Tourism from several different provinces, as well as representatives from other major wineries throughout the regions.  As Algodon Wine Estates is prominently located on the newly proposed route, Diego was able to present our unique perspective and discuss potential strategies to strengthen the flow of tourism between the two regions.

Mendoza's former Minister of Finance and Chief of Staff, Gabriel Fidel, and Bodegas de Argentina's General Manager, Juan Carlos Pina, will be overseeing this ambitious plan that will be funded in part by Inter-American Development Bank.  The newly joined routes, which will run from Salta to Patagonia, will arguably create the longest wine tourism route in the world.  The project is expected to see fruition in roughly two years' time, and an advertising campaign promoting the venture will be hitting the market by the end of 2009.

The intended union of the wine routes, and the potential increase of wine tourism traffic, would mean a great deal for San Rafael's growth and development, as well as for Algodon Wine Estates' Winery, Golf/Tennis/Polo Champions' Club, and luxury vineyard estate development.  This strategic progress to the wine routes is yet another example of how Argentina's wine tourism belt is growing to become one of the most important in the world, and Algodon Wine Estates is honored to have a valued voice in these essential discussions regarding its future.
